Fillings are a simple dental treatment designed to help repair a tooth that has been damaged because of a cavity. Cavities, or caries as they are also often known, can occur because of tooth decay and, if left untreated, are likely to get more severe.
Hopefully, we will diagnose a cavity before you start to experience any symptoms, but some patients do experience an increase in sensitivity, especially to hot and cold drinks. Other symptoms can include a persistent toothache, and/or pain when biting down or chewing.
Traditionally fillings have been made of a metal amalgam, leaving behind a silver-appearing filling in the mouth. Here at Beverley House Dental Practice, however, we recommend tooth-coloured fillings to our patients, which are normally made of a composite resin.
